There’s a new Phoenix in Salem and he’s been around for a long, long time. Andre DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) first arrived on the Days of Our Lives scene in 1983 impersonating Tony DiMera and offing Salem women as the Salem Slasher. His first victim was actually his own sister, Renee (Philece Sampler).
For decades, Penghlis alternated between playing Tony and Andre, but now Andre is the DiMera heir apparent, picking up right where murdered father, Stefano (Joseph Mascolo), left off last month.
Andre is certainly in the thick of things. He knows in his heart of hearts that Hope (Kristian Alfonso) shot Stefano and his revenge tactics have taken on a disturbing turn nobody expected.
Taking the already-disturbed Chase (Jonathon McClendon) under his wing and encouraging him to brace his dark side, Andre created a rapist, as Chase sexually forced himself on stepsister, Ciara (Vivian Jovanni).
With Hope’s daughter as a rape victim, Andre’s plan seems to be coming together. Of course, he never expected Hope would turn the tables and pin Stefano’s murder on him, leading to his arrest this week.
Penghlis admits he had no idea he was essentially brought in as Joe Mascolo and Stefano’s replacement when DAYS first called him last year.
“When I came back this time, they really didn’t tell me the reason, and they didn’t really tell me I was coming in to head the family, but you did just get that from the writing,” Penghlis tells Michael Fairman Soaps. “So, in many ways, Joe never said anything to me about usurping the situation, but how many actors…continue reading on the next page →
