After more than 30 years off the canvas, “Days of our Lives” plans to bring back Dr. Valerie Grant, with fans taking to social media to show their enthusiasm for the idea.
They also apparently want DAYS to cast Tina Andrews, the actress who played the role from 1975-1977. It turns out Andrews wouldn’t mind a Salem comeback and let fans know how she feels. When one fan suggested “All My Children” alum Debbi Morgan, Andrews tweeted:

Another fan said they’d been semi-lobbying DAYS to bring Andrews back and the actress was grateful and flattered.

Since departing DAYS all those years ago, Andrews has kept quite busy as an actress, TV producer, author, screenwriter, and playwright. In 2001, she won the Writers Guild of America award for “Sally Hemings: An American Scandal” mini-series in the Original Long Form category. Andrews was the first African-American to win this award.
Her great interest in the story of Sally Hemings, a slave and concubine to Thomas Jefferson, lead her to write the play “The Mistress of Monticello,” which debuted in Chicago in 1985. In 2000, “Sally Hemngs: An American Scandal” aired on CBS. The actress also wrote the screenplay for “Why Do Fools Fall in Love.”
Andrews’s character, Dr. Valerie Grant, was one of the first African-American characters on DAYS, as well as one of daytime’s first interracial couples when she was paired with David Banning. When producers received negative feedback and Andrews received death threats, DOOL backed off the storyline. David ended their engagement because he wasn’t ready to commit. Andrews left the show in 1977. When Valerie returned in 1981, Diane Sommerfield took over the role.
