In a recent interview with “The Greenhouse Studio,” Jen Lilley (Theresa) shared insights into how she balances her acting career and offered up advice to other actors.
“…I am one of those people that if social media wasn’t a necessary evil I would definitely not be on it…. But there is a balance, because in casting, unfortunately, there will come times when I’ve been out for a pilot or something where you won’t get it because so-and-so has however many more followers than you.
“I do that by studying. I mean, I don’t have a lot of time to take classes because I’m literally in bootcamp—you are literally in bootcamp for soaps because everything is one take and they really want you to be word perfect….
“I think it’s important to be who you are, that’s important. And why I’m saying that with this question is because when I would be in classes—I make weird, instinctual decisions that that’s the reason I book. To me they seem like the only way you could play this scene, but for some reason they are not how people play the scene.
Teachers would try to beat that out of me, and then I would not book. So, what I do instead, is I will do a study on somebody that’s amazing like, Meryl Streep or Katharine Hepburn or Kate Winslet, and I’ll watch all of their films and I’ll try to find the through line.”
