Our Days of Our Lives Take: Is Deimos a One-Note Villain?

When we heard the formidable and multi-talented soap vet Vincent Irizarry would create the role of Victor’s never-before-hear-of younger brother on “Days of Our Lives”, we couldn’t contain our excitement. How lucky was DAYS to pick up this talent?

However, all we’ve seen so far is a bitter Deimos without a heart, a backstory that makes little sense, and pure evil just like the Kiriakis nephew last year we’d surely like to forget.

Yes, Deimos has a right to be bitter for languishing in a Greek prison for 30 years, but something tells us his stay might have been shortened by unknown circumstances. He certainly managed a lot from that prison if he’s behind Bo’s kidnapping torture, and ultimate death. And, he sure knows a whole lot about the modern world for someone it left behind three decades ago.

He has no cares who lives or dies, feels no remorse for any of his actions, and doesn’t even seem human at times. Is this part worthy of the incredible Vincent Irizarry who is capable of love and layers, even when playing someone as manipulative as David Hayward on “All My Children” for years. David was a villain, but David felt. David cared for people. His life didn’t always go as planned, but we saw his humanity.

In Deimos, we see nothing. He even threatens little old ladies so it’s a good thing Caroline Brady (Peggy McCay) can fight for herself. We know DAYS tapes months ahead of time and hope we see more humanity in Deimos.

Let him fall in love (calling Judi Evans, whom MANY longtime soap fans know he has incredible chemistry with), get him away from Kate (who will sleep with anyone who glances her way of late) and make us WANT to watch Deimos with the right story. An incredible actor is one thing, but he needs the character and story to back him up. So far, we don’t see it.
