Jack and Jennifer, a “Days of Our Lives” supercouple, will finally have the happy end…well, happy for now…fans have wanted for them.
Next week, Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford) will reappear in Salem just as Jennifer’s (Melissa Reeves) demons threaten to get the best of her. Hopefully, seeing the face of the man who is arguably the lover of her life and fathered her two children will give this troubled fan favorite some hope.
A nubile Jennifer Horton met wealthy Jack Deveraux when he was editor of town newspaper, The Spectator. As an intern there, she had a front seat view of Jack’s unethical use of his paper for various self-serving acts. She also didn’t approve of the way he had treated her cousin, Melissa (ex-Melissa Scott), and friend, Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) in relationships with them.
But she also began to see his good qualities, which would eventually lead her to fall in love with him. When he agreed to pretend to be married to her so a social worker would allow her to foster a baby in need of a home, he further endeared himself to her.
Jennifer, though not the most sophisticated of potential paramours for the charming Jack, never made excuses for his villainous ways. This eventually contributed to his becoming not a villain, but an upstanding citizen of Salem, even trying to patch things up with his estranged family, including Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols).

Of course, this is Soapland. So Jennifer and Jack didn’t simply live happily ever after that. No, there was push and pull on both ends. They manipulated each other’s emotions and kept the truth from each other as much as any soap couple, but finally they found their way to each other. They married in 1991 and soon had two children Abigail (Kate Mansi) and Jack, Jr. (Casey Moss)
Even if it’s temporary, seeing these two together and experiencing their off-the-charts chemistry, will, as Peaches and Herb sang many years ago, feel so good!
