OK, we all know soaps like to play with dates and time, especially when they SORAS little kids into teens overnight, but we just can’t buy Victor and Deimos having this huge fallout over a woman 30 years ago in Days of Our Lives time and here’s why.
In 1986, Victor was already an established character on the show. John Aniston started his DAYS stint in 1985 and we quickly learned he’d had an affair with Caroline (Peggy McCay) as a younger man and started “romancing” her daughter, Kimberly (Patsy Pease).
We also soon realized Caroline and Victor had a son together (Bo) and was a self-made man, bringing himself up from nothing after growing up in Salem.
In this new re-written story, Victor seems like he comes from money, had a love of his life who was not Caroline AFTER he became an established Salem villain, and has this brother nobody heard of that he did grow up with–despite us knowing decades ago most of his youth was spent in Salem.
Victor has even spoken of how the younger Deimos whined for their father’s attention, confirming they did grow up in the same household. We understand that to make Deimos Victor’s brother, the show couldn’t make Vincent Irizarry close to John Aniston’s age because they are not close in age. Instead, they took history we already knew and muddled it all over the place.
It doesn’t help us buy this story of them both loving the same woman and this woman dying with Deimos as the accused murderer. All it does for the moment is waste a talent that DAYS could have done more with. Perhaps he could have been a Kiriakis cousin. Perhaps the back story didn’t have to hinge on a time when we already knew Victor. We hope somehow DAYS can rectify this because longtime fans have issue with it.
