It’s been more than 30 years since we’ve seen Valerie Grant in Salem, but it no looks like “Days of Our Lives” wants to bring her back to the canvas.
Valerie was a part of DAYS’ first interracial romance in the late 1970s and early 1980s when she dated Julie’s (Susan Seaforth Hayes) son, David (then-Richard Guthrie). The romance fizzled as fans weren’t ready for such a story yet decades ago.
The new casting call finds the show looking for an African-American woman in her early 50s to play the doctor. DAYS would prefer an experienced actress, according to Soap Opera Digest.

The role is described as a woman whose “courage and perseverance are two character traits that people admire her for the most. And while her experiences might have hardened other people and made them cynical, Valerie has grown into a wise and compassionate person – who still occasionally gets tripped up by her own mistakes.”
Three actresses played Valerie during her off-and-on run on the show between 1975 and 1982: Tina Andrews, Rose Fonseca, and Diane Sommerfield.
With Valerie returning to Salem, could this mean David Banning might return, as well? Only time will tell.
